Early in my career, I got some surprising feedback: “You did a great job on the analysis. But can we change it to fit the story the client wants to hear?” At the time, it felt *deeply* wrong. I thought my job was to find the truth, not tailor it! But surprisingly, looking back, I’m not so sure. The alternative approach was completely valid. And just because it was what the client wanted to hear didn’t make it inaccurate; it was just another way to look at the world. Fusing objective measurement with subjective communication is a hugely important part of a data practitioner's role — and is a skill that every practitioner should practice, especially as AI abstracts the more technical bits away. That's why I'm so excited my friend Mona Khalil wrote a whole book about this – and was so honored she asked me to write the foreword!
